Final Speech Inspiration

It didn't take me a long time to figure out what I would do if I had a million dollars. My grandmother has been my role model and my inspiration throughout my life. She is the inspiration of my idea what I will do with my million dollars.
When I was thirteen years old, my grandmother was diagnosed with a last stage ovarian cancer. She was only 53 years old at the time. I was quite young at that point and I didn’t exactly understand what it meant to have cancer. I have heard about it and all I knew was that it was very bad. My grandmother was told that she has about a year left and nothing could be done. The cancer was at the last stage and any surgeries would be a waste of time. The whole family was devastated by the news. My grandmother was a strong woman and no one could believe that she was not going to be with us in less than a year. Grandma; however, never gave up. She started radio therapy and then went on to chemo therapy. A year passed and my grandmother was still alive and was determined to get better. During that period of time, I could see the severe effects of chemotherapy on her; she was getting physically weaker, she lost her hair, but she never lost her smile and her determination to beat the cancer. After performing some tests, the doctors saw that the tumor started to shrink, and they decided to operate on grandma, she had a good chance of surviving. And they did operate and got the tumor out. The surgery was followed with some additional chemo treatments. Six months later, my grandmother went in for some tests and the after the results came out, they saw that the tumor was gone and it looked like the cancer was gone as well. The whole family couldn’t believe the news, grandma beat the cancer and she was going to be with us for a long time. Our hopes and dreams were crushed a couple weeks later. My grandmother was getting weaker and weaker; she stopped eating and couldn’t get out of bed. They took her in the hospital. After performing some lab tests, the doctors realized that the cancer came back. This time, even more severe and invasive. My grandmother stayed at the hospital, she was too weak to go home. A couple weeks later she passed away. That day, my mom lost her mother, I lost my grandma, and my grandfather lost his wife forever. She never saw me graduate from high school, she will never see me get married, or be there one day when I have children. My grandmother was one of the millions of ovarian cancer victims who die every year because there is no cure for ovarian cancer.
After what I went through with my grandmother's illness, I don't want any child to see his/her grandmother die and feel helpless and lost. I would dedicate not only my money but my life to work to find a cure for cancer.
